Observational Evidence of Increasing Global Radiative Forcing

چکیده
Changes in atmospheric composition, such as increasing greenhouse gases, cause an initial radiative imbalance to the climate system, quantified instantaneous forcing. This fundamental metric has not been directly observed globally and previous estimates have come from models. In part, this is because current space-based instruments cannot distinguish forcing climate’s response. We apply kernels satellite observations disentangle these components find all-sky increased 0.53 ± 0.11 W/m2 2003 2018, accounting for positive trends total planetary imbalance. increase due a combination of rising concentrations well-mixed gases recent reductions aerosol emissions. These results highlight distinct fingerprints anthropogenic activity Earth’s changing energy budget, which we can detect within 4 years.

متن کاملPrecipitation, radiative forcing and global temperature change
[1] Radiative forcing is a useful tool for predicting equilibrium global temperature change. However, it is not so useful for predicting global precipitation changes, as changes in precipitation strongly depend on the climate change mechanism and how it perturbs the atmospheric and surface energy budgets. Here a suite of climate model experiments and radiative transfer calculations are used to ...
متن کاملLongwave Radiative Forcing in Global Climate Models
Long wave radiation (LWR) forcing is determined in atmospheric global climate models (AGCMs) by a heating algorithm embedded in the model. These algorithms compute vertical heating rate (HR) profiles from profiles of temperature (T), moisture (Q), clouds, and minor atmospheric constituents; thus the HRs depend on the vertical structure of the input variables plus internal physics. The sensitivi...
متن کاملSimulation of the global contrail radiative forcing: A sensitivity analysis
[1] The contrail radiative forcing induced by human aviation activity is one of the most uncertain contributions to climate forcing. An accurate estimation of global contrail radiative forcing is imperative, and the modeling approach is an effective and prominent method to investigate the sensitivity of contrail forcing to various potential factors. We use a simple offline model framework that ...
